NO MISTAKE

NO MISTAKE When Death in dark finality Would tempt this heart to break, I must remember through my tears That you make no mistake. The fact that I don't understand Should not a hindrance be, My faith in God would judge these tears As rendered selfishly. It's but for loneliness I cry, My loved one does not weep; He walks green hills beside his Lord, And sleeps where angels sleep. Already he has touched his face, And kissed those nail-pierced feet. Already he has danced upon A shimmering golden street. How could I seek to call him back? He's where he longed to be. He never wanted less than this My tears are but for me. Remind me, Lord, as smoke ascends From ashes to the skies. That from the ashes of my grief Perfection shall arise. And you do all things out of Love, And you do all things well. You never make mistakes, dear Lord. Your hand can but excel You do not fail; you've never failed. And as you give you take. I must not sorr...

Three Losses

What a week.  Does anyone believe in the saying that "Death comes in threes"?    I do.   I have also heard that you just get to three and stop counting.   Maybe.   But I think it comes in threes.   You do stop counting after three, but it seems it's because the span of time after the three deaths is very long in between.   That's why I believe that death comes in threes. Susie:   Susie lived in my tiny apartment community, Ramey Apartments, in El Paso, Texas.  She was cool.  She was 91, same age as my grandmother, but walked all over El Paso.  That's what led to her demise.   She was crossing the street and a mail truck downtown ran over her with his front tire.   Yeah.  Horrible way to go.   Man.   But she was doing what she loved.  Walking.  Manny:  Oh, Manny.   Manny was the best.   He never met anyone he di...

Fresh Eggs

It's been a long year.  Very long year.   It's interesting to me how things can sort of go around in a little circle.   I have a point.  This may be a moment, so hold on. Does anyone really, really like the morning doves?  I mean, they're all well and good if it's not the morning and they're not cooing at 5:00, 6:00 in the morning.  Actually, they're cooing at more like 5:00, 5:01, 5:02, 5:03, 5:04, 5:05 -- well, you get my drift. When I lived in El Paso, that was my introduction to morning doves/pigeons.  Seriously, El Paso has pigeons and stray cats EVERYWHERE!   I really think that's the only animals they have.   Well, except for the recording of the loud, loud jungle sounds of screeching monkeys and parrots penetrating out of the speakers over the bus depot downtown, but that's another blog entirely. Those morning doves,  they woke me up all the time.  So when I left to go to my grandmother's ...

KEVIN

This past November my brother achieved a great accomplishment -- retirement from the Navy after 20 years of excellent service to our country.    In lieu of a gift, I wrote him a poem.  With his permission, I share it here with you. KEVIN As you sit there with those smiling eyes So very blue with sparkling pride I cannot help but join right in Strong emotions swelling inside You’re retiring from the Navy today Twenty years you have done From starting out as a seaman Into a Chief you’ve become My mind can’t help but wander. Back to a tow-headed lad Growing up on Lawton Avenue in Lawton , Oklahoma With two siblings and a dad Your spirit of life and its adventures Beginning way back then Skateboard ollies and bicycle ramps Carefree youth, seeming to never end The determination and love of a father To encourage you all the way Starting a seed of "You’re the boss" To cling to every day But alas, to Dallas off you g...

The Purple Marker

It's so funny how things can work out.  When things come up randomly and you're able to just share that little inside moment with someone else.   So I segway into the "Purple Marker".   I'm in the middle of a really big trial right now.   It's quite the high profile thing.  The District Attorney has his table in the courtroom covered with markers.  I make the comment to an assistant, "Wow!! Look at all his markers.  I don't see a purple one.  I'm going to ask him, 'Where's the purpler marker?'"  No, I didn't actually ask. We're in the courtroom.  DA calls his first witness.  There's testimony of the incident site.  He brings out a large diagram.  Says, "Mr. Witness, can you please use this purple marker and show us where the automobile was."    HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I immediately turned in open court to the assistant and smile.   She knew.   That's a small thing that...

Eye Cream

The random thought in my head for today is about eye cream.   I'm not a doctor, clinician or whatnot, but I do use face cream and no eye cream.  Seriously, I do not get the point of a separate eye cream.  I use Oil of Olay and other face creams twice a day after washing with a washcloth.   I smear them all over my face including around my eyes.   No, I do not get the cream in my eyes, because my eyes are closed.   No, I do not have crow's feet or whatnot.   If someone could help me out to let me know the point of spending A LOT of extra money for eye cream, I'm down.   I'll try it out.  Frankly, I did try one.  It did nothing different than what I have already had. However, with all that being said, I can see the point of covering up dark circles.   Those have to go.  Totally have to go.   And also, what about those puffy circles under the eye?   I know.  I'm waiting for someone out there to say, "Hey, tha...

It's been another few months since I've checked in.   I'm not a great blogger, but I'm not the worst either.  Well, I may be the worst.   That's okay.   I'm working on doing better.   I have many ideas for this blog and many hopes.  We'll see where those things can take me.   Along with that, I hope it takes you into a few moments of your daytime hours to enjoy. The best thing I've had the joy to experience is family.   Being awoken by your adult son calling you j...
